The HP PolyServe Migration Manager delivers a systematic and repeatable process to upgrade instances of SQL Server 2000 to SQL Server 2005 or SQL Server 2005 Enterprise Edition.
Once installed, the software auto-discovers all SQL Server instances within specified networks. It then provides an intuitive and easy to use interface to select all or a subset of databases to migrate.
Once the user has selected which databases to upgrade, the HP PolyServe Migration Manager creates a copy of the existing database and maps it to an automatically created SQL Server 2005. Important data components such as IP addresses, security settings and login information, to name a few, are automatically copied and directly mapped to the new database servers. The upgraded instances mirror the pre-existing database servers, producing a familiar operating environment for DBAs and eliminating tedious configuration processes.
Both the original (SQL Server 2000) and upgraded (SQL Server 2005) instances are available to the Database administrator (DBA) throughout the process. This creates a backup safeguard that allows performance validation of the new database servers before the transition is finalized. The DBA decides when to flip the switch and provide user availability to the upgraded database instances.
