Citrix GoToMeeting Corporate has gone a long way to help the company meet its goal of reducing its overall travel budget. Another benefit: employees can be more productive by staying in the office rather than traveling to a distant client. "Rather than flying and spending the night for a three-hour meeting, we're using GoToMeeting to meet remotely," says Biernat. "We're not losing resources for an entire day."
The combined savings and productivity improvements quickly endeared Citrix GoToMeeting Corporate to senior management. "We were able to easily justify the cost of GoToMeeting," says Biernat. "By using online meeting technology, we save $3,000 every month in travel expenses such as airfare, hotels, mileage, and meals," he says. "It was very clear that we can pay for our GoToMeeting licenses by avoiding one or two trips—the payback is almost immediate!" In addition, because the company works with financial institutions, security features such as 128-bit end-to-end encryption are paramount. "Security is a factor for us and the encryption was very important."

As a result, the company found employees were not using the service as often as they wanted. "As we tried to scale the product, it became extremely costly, so we used it in a very limited fashion." The variable charges were difficult to budget as well. "As managers, we couldn't predict our cost."
