Backup And Recovery
Backup refers to the copying of data so that these additional copies may be restored after a data loss event. Backups differ from archives and backup systems differ from fault-tolerant systems. Backups are useful primarily for two purposes: to restore a computer to an operational state following a disaster (called disaster recovery) and to restore small numbers of files after they have been accidentally deleted or corrupted.

With the ever-increasing importance of websites and web applications, performance has become a major concern for driving revenue, productivity, and user satisfaction. Stingray Traffic Manager 9.0 builds on this traditional ADC functionality and extends it by delivering performance that end users care about.
PCI DSS (Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard) is a pragmatic set of best practices and security measures that any organization must follow if they accept and handle cardholder data online. The standard encompasses network security, data protection, data encryption, system security, access control, ongoing monitoring and testing and security policy development.
This document details the performance figures obtained by the Riverbed Stingray Traffic Manager running on VMware
vSphere 4.0 on the Cisco Unified Computing System (UCS) and outlines the methods used to achieve these performance figures. This testing follows a previous test conducted with Cisco UCS blade running on a previous generation of Intel Xeon processors. The results from these two sets of tests will be compared at the end of this document.

The investment that an organization makes in their virtualization or cloud initiative is significant, but so is the ROI (Return On Investment) that these projects deliver. The challenge is that the cost of providing the storage infrastructure to these initiatives can be expensive and can quickly eat into any ROI that was gained by the virtualization and/or cloud project.

As it has been the trend over the last decade, organizations must continue to deal with growing data storage requirements with the same or less resources. The growing adoption of storage-as-a-service, business intelligence, and big data results in ever more Service Level Agreements that are difficult to fulfill without IT administrators spending ever longer hours in the data center. Many organizations now expect their capital expense growth for storage to be unstoppable, and see operating expense levers - such as purchasing storage systems that are easy to manage - as the only way to control data storage-related costs.

Relational database management systems (RDBMSs) are systems of software that manage databases as structured sets of tables containing rows and columns with references to one another through key values. They include the ability to optimize storage, process transactions, perform queries, and preserve the integrity of data structures. When used with applications, they provide the beating heart of the collection of business functions supported by those applications. They vary considerably in terms of the factors that impact the total cost of running a database application, yet users seldom perform a disciplined procedure to calculate such costs. Most users choose instead to remain with a single vendor's RDBMS and never visit the question of ongoing hardware, software, and staffing fees.
