One of the fundamental decisions in the design of data centers, server rooms and network closets is which uninterruptible power supply (UPS) systems to use. You cannot be certain that the power you receive from your local utility will be suitable for your equipment, or that it will always be available. And even when you are receiving good-quality power from the utility, equipment inside your facility (such as electric motors) can introduce power problems. A network/server UPS system conditions input power 24x7 to ensure that your equipment always receives reliable power and protection from damaging and disruptive power problems. A network/server UPS system also supports your equipment during power failures, providing enough battery backup runtime to outlast shorter outages. During longer outages, the UPS system will provide enough runtime to save files and gracefully shut down systems or to ensure that equipment is powered until standby generators are ready to support the load. In the not so distant past, the way we worked looked very different. Most work was done in an office, on desktops that were always connected to the corporate network. The applications and infrastructure that we used sat behind a firewall. Branch offices would backhaul traffic to headquarters, so they would get the same security protection. The focus from a security perspective was to secure the network perimeter. Today, that picture has changed a great deal.

Enterprise IT is changing. It’s evolving from a rigid, static, manually configured and managed architecture to one where connectivity is dynamic, application services are on demand, and processes are automated. Enterprise networking is evolving along with IT. This has been evident in the past several years in initiatives such as enterprise digitization and as-a-service consumption models, as well as their enablers, including BYOD, IoT and cloud. Add to this, all of the security implications of each initiative. The evolution of IT requires a network that evolves along with IT’s changing requirements – a network that continuously adapts to ever-changing security threats, and evolving digitization, mobility, IoT and cloud requirements.

Case management frameworks built on business process management platforms help IT solutions architects deploy case-handling applications and offer an alternative to specialized case management applications and custom coding. According to Gartner, the complex architecture required to support case management has relegated it to the status of a niche application, typically addressed by specialist, commercial off-the-shelf application providers and system integrators. Case management as a process style is being applied in many sectors beyond government, legal and insurance, including healthcare, banking, higher education and retail. Industry and cross-industry case management frameworks are now available. "Adaptive case management" hype exceeds the reality of what buyers need. Security has become top of mind for CIOs, and CEOs. Encryption at rest is a piece of the solution, but not a big piece. Encryption over the network is another piece, but only a small piece. These and other pieces do not fit together well; they need to unencrypt and reencrypt the data when they move through the layers, leaving clear versions that create complex operational issues to monitor and detect intrusion. Larger-scale high-value applications requiring high security often use Oracle middleware, including Java and Oracle database. Traditional security models give the data to the processors to encrypt and unencrypt, often many times. The overhead is large, and as a result encryption is used sparingly on only a few applications. The risk to enterprises is that they may have created an illusion of security, which in reality is ripe for exploitation. The modern best-practice security model is an end-to-end encryption architecture. The application deploys application-led encryption s

Can your organization afford to wait until after an attack happens to protect your users and your data? Perimeter security provides visibility and control for employee activity only when employees remain on a corporate network. What about roaming users who bypass the VPN? Or employees working in cloud applications? Web gateways only protect employees from threats over web ports 80 and 443. Today’s security must provide comprehensive protection across all ports and protocols to fill the gaps in the security stack. Hear from Eric Ahlm, Research Director at Gartner and Meg Diaz, Head of Product Marketing for Cisco Umbrella. Eric and Meg will address the challenges companies face as they compare modern convenience with the known risks of relinquishing visibility and control, especially as more sensitive data moves to the cloud. Join us for the guidance you need to stay ahead of the curve in 2018. We’ll discuss the right answer for protecting data in the digital age.

"High-profile cyber attacks seem to occur almost daily in recent years. Clearly security threats are persistent and growing. While many organizations have adopted a defense-in-depth strategy — utilizing anti-virus protection, firewalls, intruder prevention systems, sandboxing, and secure web gateways — most IT departments still fail to explicitly protect the Domain Name System (DNS). This oversight leaves a massive gap in network defenses. But this infrastructure doesn’t have to be a vulnerability. Solutions that protect recursive DNS (rDNS) can serve as a simple and effective security control point for end users and devices on your network. Read this white paper to learn more about how rDNS is putting your enterprise at risk, why you need a security checkpoint at this infrastructural layer, how rDNS security solutio Read 5 Reasons Enterprises Need a New Access Model to learn about the fundamental changes enterprises need to make when providing access to their private applications.

Although the need for application control and awareness remains, enterprise concerns are shifting to securing enterprise applications hosted in private and public clouds, protecting east-west data center traffic and preventing unwanted traffic and malware on the corporate network.
