A leader in the North American fitness and lifestyle market, Equinox Fitness has experienced fast growth over the last few years. With ambitious plans to open six to eight new locations per year, Equinox's challenges include the need to promptly develop and align the new hires to support their rapid growth.
They quickly realized the need to improve the systems they would need to develop and align their new hires: performance reviews were primarily paper-based, and their training program delivery systems were not adequate to meet ambitious employee development objectives.
The situation was especially critical for the company's personal training business, a core prot center, which relies heavily on extensive personnel education. Trainers progress through "tiers" as they advance in their Equinox formal fitness education, with each tier commanding higher rates. Moreover, the personal training segment of the business is tied directly to revenues - not only through the number of personal training packages sold to members, but also through the personal trainers' tier levels throughout the Equinox Fitness enterprise.
With plans to add nearly 4,000 more employees within the year, Equinox Fitness determined that a critical need was an integrated talent management system.
