CA ARCserve Backup Option for Disaster Recovery There are many time-consuming tasks, including installation of the base operating system and server setup, which must be performed manually after a disaster. The CA ARCserve Backup Option for Disaster Recovery enables you to restore your server by using simple and quick recovery steps and enables users, who have minimal server configuration experience, to recover sophisticated systems. When you submit a full backup job, the Disaster Recovery Option automatically generates and saves emergency data information for each protected computer either on the local backup server, on backup media, or on a remote computer. In the event of a disaster, you can then recover protected computers to their most recent backup state. The Disaster Recovery Option supports Microsoft Windows 2000, Windows Server 2003, Windows Server 2008, and Windows XP based computers. On computers running Windows XP and Windows Server 2003, you can recover by using the following start up methods:
. Bootable CD - This solution is built on the Microsoft Windows Automated System Restore (ASR) framework, and uses the Windows XP or Windows 2003 installation media, a machine-specific recovery disk (MSD), and the CA ARCserve Backup CD. By using reimaging or remastering, you can create a single bootable CD/DVD that combines the installation media, MSD, and CA ARCserve Backup.
. Bootable Tape - If you have suitable hardware, you can start directly from a tape drive. The only required media is the tape media that contains the backup data. You can also use Remote Installation Service-based, floppy-less disaster recovery on Windows XP and Windows Server 2003. On Windows Server 2008 computers you can use bootable CDs, and bootable USB drives.
