Microsoft has launched the most advanced Windows Server operating system yet: ® ®Microsoft Windows Server 2008. Dell closely collaborated with Microsoft during development, gaining expertise in all aspects of its features and functionality, including key advancements in the management of remote infrastructures.
TAKING CONTROL OF ANYWHERE ACCESS More and more frequently, work is happening outside the office. As a result, managing IT infrastructure and security at remote locations is an ongoing challenge for the IT department. Running Windows Server 2008 on Dell products can greatly simplify these tasks, letting you take full advantage of your remote infrastructure. ENHANCED SECURITY WITH ACTIVE DIRECTORYActive Directory offers authentication services for Windows-based machines, helping prevent unauthorized use of your documents, data, and e-mail. Windows Server 2008 adds a number of enhancements to make Active Directory even more powerful. The Read-Only Domain Controller allows you to deploy Active Directory while restricting replication of the full database. Plus, Restartable Active Directory lets you service Active Directory Domain Services without the need to take the server offline. BitLocker can also provide security for your data. It offers full-volume encryption on multiple drives, even when the system is in unauthorized hands or running a different OS.FILE SHARING MADE EASY Server Message Block (SMB) is the file-sharing protocol for Windows-based computers. The new SMB 2.0 offers greater performance and better security when connecting to file shares over high-latency links. Plus, the Distributed File System provides WAN-friendly replication as well as simplified, fault-tolerant access to geographically dispersed files.A LEAN AND MEAN INSTALLATION The Server Core option is a minimal installation, providing a streamlined environment for a highly available server that requires fewer updates and less servicing. Server Core installs the Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, and File Server roles without a UI or unnecessary features. This can reduce the maintenance and management requirements as well as the attack service for your server roles.THE POWER OF VIRTUALIZATION Windows Server 2008 includes everything you need for server virtualization. Hyper-V, Microsoft's 64-bit, hypervisor-based platform, can help you reduce costs, improve server utilization, and create a more flexible and manageable data center. By including virtualization technology in the operating system, you can dynamically add physical and virtual resources without restarting the virtual machines or instances. Windows Server 2008 also supports SMP and both x64-bit hosts and guests.
