How Jumpnode Network Monitoring WorksThe Jumpnode monitoring appliance is the heart of the system's unique network monitoring and remote access capabilities. Fast and easy to install, even in remote sites without IT staff, the appliance is simply plugged into the network. Within minutes it identifies servers, routers, printers and switches-anything with an IP address-and begins monitoring based on checks selected from a point-and-click menu.
Monitoring data from the appliance is constantly fed into Jumpnode's centrally managed hosted software, providing anytime/anywhere access to the data from any web browser. Jumpnode can ping a database server, check email server disk space, monitor printer toner levels, verify website availability and perform many other real-time tests, securely relaying status to the Dashboard.
When a network problem occurs-for example, when a router does not respond or an Exchange server runs out of disk space-Jumpnode sends alerts by email and pager. If the primary network administrator is not available, Jumpnode automatically escalates the alert to designated individuals, ensuring that issues are resolved as quickly as possible.
Jumpnode provides uninterrupted network visibility and alerts even in the event of WAN connectivity failure, using a built-in analog (or optional cellular) modem to connect to the data center when Internet connections are down. If the onsite network appliance stops communicating, such as in the event of a power failure, the Dashboard displays an alert within minutes.
